Sauber Petronas driver Nick Heidfeld managed to put on a solid qualifying performance by finishing at P6, just 6 tenths of a second slower than Ferrari driver Rubens Barrichello in 5th place. Team-mate Heinz Harald Frentzen however, only managed P13 about 5 tenths of a second slower than Heidfeld as it seems that Frentzen may be on a different strategy. Last year's Malaysian Grand Prix winner, Ralf Schumacher sits way back at P17 after what seems to be a really bad qualifying session for him.
